Why This Reference Exists
Printed San Diego directories divided into separate record systems over time, but the underlying trails remain. ARCC holds deeds, recorded documents, county-clerk filings, and local vital-record services. The Assessor connects parcels with ownership and mailing information. The Registrar handles authenticated voter checks. The Central Library, City Clerk Digital Archives, History Center, SDSU, UC San Diego, and State Archives preserve historical collections.
Finding a current parcel clue, tracing an old household, or checking a public affiliation can require several offices and different access rules. The reference brings together the named portals, local dates, office channels, and cautions found in the San Diego research materials. It does not copy or host the government records themselves.
What San Diego Readers Can Find
- Different search angles: the street directory for address-keyed records, the Directory Book for historical collections, and the resident lookup for one-person verification
- Local record keepers: ARCC, the Assessor, Registrar of Voters, Superior Court, Development Services, County Archives, and the City Clerk
- Historical shelves: San Diego city directories, telephone books, census material, maps, San Diego Union obituary microfilm, cemetery records, and university finding aids
- Access boundaries: California Public Records Act requests, vital-copy eligibility, voter-file restrictions, court-file channels, and Safe at Home protections
What This Reference Cannot Do
San Diego Residents Directory is privately operated and has no connection with the City of San Diego, San Diego County, California agencies, courts, libraries, or records custodians. The limits are straightforward:
- It cannot confirm that a particular person currently lives at a San Diego address
- It cannot retrieve, certify, amend, or remove a government record for a reader
- It cannot add a person to, or delete a person from, a roll, index, or database
- It cannot decide whether two same-named records belong to the same person
- It cannot promise that an external portal, fee, collection year, or office detail will remain unchanged
Only the responsible custodian can certify or correct a record. Information here is not a consumer report and is not a basis for a Fair Credit Reporting Act decision.
